If you’re looking for ways to increase your activity level without bulking up, consider doing some flexibility training.
Do you struggle with aches and pains in your muscles and joints? Is that one of the main reasons why you don’t exercise consistently? At Archetype fitness, we have the cure (and no, it’s not more Advil). It’s flexibility! Whether you use a foam roller to ease the pain in your runner’s knee, or complete an hour yoga session twice a week, having increased flexibility is always a huge bonus.
Flexibility is a greatly underestimated aspect of fitness, especially among young athletes. It is all too common in today’s sporting world that we see athletes pull up with a lame hamstring, or wist an ankle making a routine turn and injure a knee in a cutting action. Being flexible and having a full range of motion in your joints is of supreme importance because of these reasons alone. But flexibility does much more than just prevents injuries; it improves blood flow to the muscles, which allows the body to function more fluidly, it improves mobility of the joints and it also improves overall balance in the body, which is extremely important for any sport or activity.
