There are two keys to weight management training; consistent exercise and a healthy diet.
Our exercise model is based off of the ACSM recommended acronym F.I.T.T.E. This stands for Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type and Enjoyment. In order for exercise to be effective, we must follow certain guidelines. Here are the FITTE guidelines for weight management.
The second part of the equation is diet. While we are not certified nutritionists, we are here to offer advice that will help manage your weight. Here are three simple keys that will help you along the way:
1) Portioning – As a society we are notorious over eaters. Portion sizes are often times too big and even when they are not, we tend to eat multiple portions. Organizing what you eat and how much you eat is not a difficult task, people just don’t take the time to do it. Make this priority number one!
2) Fruits and Vegetables – Find a way to incorporate more of these into your diet. It seems like another pretty simple task, but once again, people just don’t do it. Fruits and veggies are what your body was intended to eat. They contain a huge number of antioxidants, which are essential to fighting free radicals. Free radicals have been found to be one of the causes of cancer, aging and a variety of diseases. So eat up!
3) Don’t Diet! – Diets program you to think, “don’t eat”! This is the absolute worst thing you could be telling yourself. Your body needs nutrition, so feed it. In many ways eating is just like exercising. Don’t make eating harder, just eat smarter. Portion your meals and consider what you are putting in your body before you do it. If you simplify the way you eat, not only will you look better, you will feel better!
