Core Stability is at the essence of what we do at Archetype Fitness. Built around strengthening the body’s entire mid-section it is included in many of our training exercises.
When people hear the term “core” they immediately think of “six-pack abs”. They are unaware that the core includes much more. It is comprised of the abdominal wall, the pelvis, lower back and diaphragm. For all these parts to be in harmony they must be trained properly. For golfers, your core is your fitness base and without a solid base, it is extremely difficult to attain the level of golf fitness that you desire.
Stabilizing the spinal column is the first step. In order to do this many of the exercises will focus on resisting force and isometric (static) holds. These exercises are geared at strengthening the Transverse Abdominis (TVA), which is the inner most abdominal muscle. As the body adjusts and becomes more stable, it is easier to focus on strengthening the Rectus Abdominis (“six pack abs”) and the Oblique muscles.
Take the time to engage your core muscles in each exercise you do. In particular, golf core stability will help to ensure you build the base you need for a healthier core and a better golf swing.
